Job summary

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated Theatre Scrub Practitioner for the Cardiac Theatres. The unit comprises four theatres performing over 1,000 cardiac and 500 thoracic cases annually, with opportunities to work in recovery and Cardiology.

Training is provided; prior Cardiac Theatre experience is preferred but training can be provided for registered Nurse or ODP applicants. The core hours are 08:00–19:00, with a 7-day, 24-hour on-call requirement.

Responsibilities

A vacancy has arisen within the Cardiac Theatres at Blackpool. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Theatre Scrub Practitioner. The Unit consists of 4 theatres that perform over 1,000 adult Cardiac Cases annually, including minimal access surgery, as well as around 500 Thoracic cases, including robotic thoracic cases. As well as working in the 4 theatres as a scrub practitioner, there are opportunities to work in the theatre recovery area and Cardiology. Ideally the candidate should have experience in Cardiac Theatres but all registered Nurse / ODP’s applicants will be considered as training can be provided.

Main duties of the job

The core hours are between 08.00 and 19.00 Monday to Friday, with a 7 day, 24-hour emergency on-call service, that you will be expected to join.

Preparing surgical instruments, maintain a sterile environment, and anticipate the surgical teams needs by passing instruments during the procedures. The scrub nurse is responsible for the correct count of swabs needles and instruments at the end of the procedure.
