Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Scrub Practitioner in the Theatre team, at Gloucester Royal Hospital. The 10‑month post focuses on scrubbing for surgery, theatre and robotic/IR equipment, maintaining aseptic standards and patient safety.

Registration with NMC or HCPC is required, with ongoing professional development encouraged. Previous theatre experience is advantageous; on‑call work may be required.

Qualifications

• Understanding of perioperative practice and patient care.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as scrub practitioner across surgical specialties, including complex procedures.
• Prepare operating theatres, instruments and specialist equipment (robotic and IR systems).
• Maintain aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
• Anticipate needs of the surgical team for efficient procedures.
• Undertake surgical counts and document per Trust policy.
• Participate in WHO surgical safety checklists and team briefs/debriefs.
• Support perioperative patient care across the pathway.
