Job summary

Theatre Practitioner position at Sarum Road Hospital, Winchester, part of Circle Health Group, offers a full-time 37.5-hour week within our theatre department. You will support the surgical team, prepare instruments, maintain sterility and ensure patient safety, with duties across scrub, anaesthetics or recovery as required.

We require registration with NMC or HCPC, theatre experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with theatre experience.
  • Experience in a theatre environment (scrub, anaesthetics or recovery).
  • Knowledge of infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve and adapt quickly in a dynamic setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility and supporting the anaesthetist with equipment and patient monitoring.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient needs.
  • Check surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, efficient lists.
  • Support a positive, respectful theatre environment.

Salary: Up to £43,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Sarum Road Hospital in Winchester is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for an Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in theTheatre department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
