The Blackheath Hospital in London is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics. A Theatre Practitioner - Scrub role is available for 37.5 hours per week on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will assist the surgical team, maintain sterile theatre environments, and provide post-operative care. Endoscopy is included and training will be provided; flexibility to cover shifts is required.

Qualifications

• Registered professional with NMC or HCPC registration.
• Experience in a theatre environment, scrub experience preferred.
• Strong infection control and patient safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and maintain sterility; assist surgeon and anaesthetist; monitor patient and manage airway.
• Provide post-operative care and discharge readiness; monitor vitals, pain and nausea.
• Endoscopy included; training provided.
• Set up theatres per surgery type and patient needs; check equipment for faults.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner - Scrub to join their team of staff in the Theatres department.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties Of This Role Include

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Endoscopy included within the role, training will be provided.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub.
• SFA role in addition would be an advantage.
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
