Job summary

The Blackheath Hospital in London, part of Circle Health Group, has an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner - Scrub to join the Theatres department. This is a full-time, 37.5 hour per week role with a permanent contract and a salary of up to £46,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

You will prepare instruments, maintain sterility, support the anaesthetist, set up theatres, and provide post-operative care. Endoscopy is included; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with theatre scrub experience.
• Infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a dynamic theatre environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and maintain sterility; anticipate surgeon needs and ensure equipment safety.
• Assist the anaesthetist with equipment preparation, patient monitoring and positioning.
• Provide post-operative care, monitor vitals and aid discharge readiness.
• Endoscopy included; training will be provided.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
• Report faults in equipment and work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe lists.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner - Scrub to join their team of staff in theTheatresdepartment.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required tocover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.

Endoscopy included within the role, training will be provided.

Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.

Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.

Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.

Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists

Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).

Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub.

SFA role in addition would be an advantage.

Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.

Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
