Job summary

Sarum Road Hospital in Winchester, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the theatre team on a bank basis. The role involves scrub duties, assisting the surgical team and preparing equipment for a range of procedures.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) qualification is required.
• Surgical First Assistant qualification is desirable.
• Experience or training in a theatre environment in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.

• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve and respond quickly in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and maintain sterility, anticipate surgeon needs and ensure equipment safety.
• Support the Anaesthetist with equipment prep, monitoring and airway management.
• Provide post-operative care and monitor vital signs, pain and nausea.
• Adhere to infection control policies at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
• Check surgical and anaesthetic equipment and report faults.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to achieve safe surgical lists.
• Contribute to a positive and efficient theatre environment.

Theatre Practitioner – Scrub (Bank) Sarum Road Hospital Bank Shifts Salary: Up to £35.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification) Sarum Road Hospital in Winchester is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country. We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department. This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety;
• support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning;
• and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

• Surgical First Assistant qualification desirable.
• Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).

• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
