Job summary

Circle Health Group is seeking a Theatre Practitioner (Bank) for Goring Hall Hospital in West Sussex. The role supports the theatre department during busy periods and staff absences, preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, and assisting the anaesthetist.

The position requires registration (NMC or HCPC) and prior theatre experience. Competitive hourly rate applies, with shifts on a bank basis and opportunities to contribute to safe, efficient surgical lists.

Qualifications

• Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to changes.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility and equipment safety.
• Support the Anaesthetist in equipment prep, patient monitoring and positioning.
• Provide post-operative care, monitor vitals and manage pain and nausea.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient needs.
• Check equipment prior to use and report faults.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe surgical lists.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful theatre environment.

Theatre Practitioner (Bank)

Location: Goring Hall Hospital, West Sussex

Shift type: Bank shifts (as and when required)

Salary: Up to £25.00 per hour (depending on experience, training and qualification)

Overview

Duties

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety.
• Support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning.
• Provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
