Job summary

Circle Health Group in Northampton is seeking a Theatre Practitioner for a bank role in the Theatre department. You will supplement staffing during busy periods and provide cover for annual leave or absences.

The role involves instrument preparation, maintaining sterility, assisting the surgical team and supporting the anaesthetist. You must be registered and able to work in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with current registration.
• Experience or training in a theatre environment (scrub, anaesthetics or recovery).
• Knowledge of infection control and patient safety.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments, maintain sterility, anticipate surgeon needs and assist theatre staff.
• Support anaesthetist with equipment prep, patient monitoring, airway management and positioning.
• Provide post‑operative care, monitor vitals and assist discharge readiness.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
• Check surgical/anaesthetic equipment and report faults immediately.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team for safe, efficient surgical lists.

Theatre Practitioner (Bank)

Three Shires Hospital Bank Shifts Salary: Up to £25.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Three Shires Hospital in Northampton is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department. This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties Of This Role Include

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
