Job summary

This role is on an as-and-when-required basis, offering flexible, on-call shifts across the theatre department with competitive hourly pay up to £28 depending on experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with theatre experience.
  • Experience in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Knowledge of infection control and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instruments, maintain sterility, anticipate surgeon needs and support the theatre team.
  • Assist anaesthetist with equipment prep, patient monitoring, airway management and positioning.
  • Provide post‑operative care, monitor vital signs and support discharge readiness.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
  • Check surgical and anaesthetic equipment, report faults promptly.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient lists.

Theatre Practitioner (Bank)

Cheshire Clinic – Bank Shifts – Salary: Up to £28.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Circle Cheshire Clinic in Northwich is part of Circle Health Group, Britain’s leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country. We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department.

This is a bank role working on an ‘as and when required’ basis. You will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties Of This Role
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post‑operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants Should Meet The Following Criteria
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem‑solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
