This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical textiles experience who enjoys helping students develop their creative ideas, explore different techniques and bring their designs to life.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will play an important role in ensuring that classrooms and workshops are well equipped, materials are prepared and specialist equipment is maintained to a high standard. You will help create an inspiring and safe learning environment where students can experiment, develop technical skills and produce work they are proud of.

As Textiles Technician, you will provide essential practical and technical support to the department, helping lessons run smoothly and ensuring students have access to the resources and equipment they need.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing textiles materials, fabrics, patterns, samples and equipment for lessons, demonstrations and practical projects.

  • Setting up and maintaining sewing machines, overlockers, irons, cutting equipment and other specialist textiles tools.

  • Supporting teachers and students with practical activities involving sewing, garment construction, embroidery, fabric manipulation and decorative techniques.

  • Assisting with the preparation, adaptation and production of teaching resources, material samples and project components.

  • Monitoring stock levels, ordering materials and maintaining an organised inventory of fabrics, threads, haberdashery and other supplies.

  • Carrying out routine equipment checks, identifying faults and arranging repairs or reporting maintenance requirements.

  • Ensuring textiles rooms, workstations, storage areas and equipment are clean, organised and ready for use.

  • Promoting safe working practices and ensuring equipment is used appropriately in accordance with school procedures.

  • Supporting risk assessments, health and safety procedures and the safe storage of tools, materials and chemicals where applicable.

  • Assisting with the preparation and display of students' work for exhibitions, open days, competitions and school events.

  • Helping maintain a well‑organised, creative and welcoming workshop environment.

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to support curriculum delivery and respond to changing departmental needs.

What We're Looking For

  • Knowledge of fabrics, fibres, threads, patterns and a range of textile construction and decorative techniques.

  • The ability to prepare materials and resources accurately and efficiently.

  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.

  • An understanding of workshop health and safety and the safe use of specialist equipment.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills when working with teachers and students.
