Job summary

Airbus Defence and Space Limited is seeking a Test Engineer to design, implement, and maintain automated test systems for space equipment across Portsmouth or Stevenage. You will develop instrumental control, data acquisition, and automated test routines in Python and Java, while collaborating with system engineers and designers.

The role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, a 37-hour week and opportunities for international mobility within Airbus.

Qualifications

• Experience of testing instruments, systems, software and devices.
• Knowledge of DUT/ EUT/ UUT terminology and test concepts.
• Strong software automation experience with Python and Java.
• Experience automating tests for instruments or equipment in space, automotive, aerospace or similar environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, and maintain clean, scalable test automation software in Python and Java.
• Develop automated routines for instrument control, DUT sequencing, data acquisition, and result file generation to support RF and Digital space equipment testing.
• Author and maintain architectural blueprints, technical specs, API documentation, and system design guidelines to ensure team-wide alignment.
• Establish best practices for code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and technical debt management.
• As roadmap expands, support architectural evolution and development of future high-performance engineering test platforms.
