Job summary
This role’s key objective is to ensure the Chaucer Quality Assurance function supports the change function by assessing software change risks at various gates in the Project/Software Change lifecycle. The role is crucial in ensuring Test Policy adherence and the effective use of test tooling and processes to deliver high-quality testing across the organization.
Main duties
- Create comprehensive test approaches and plans aligned with the Chaucer Enterprise Test Strategy and software development lifecycle, designing repeatable Test Models.
- Develop and maintain robust test automation frameworks supporting continuous integration and delivery.
- Oversee quality assurance aspects, including establishing metrics, applying industry best practices, and developing tools and processes to meet quality goals.
- Promote a quality mindset, agile testing processes, and methodologies within the business.
- Drive continuous improvement in quality, testing, and release activities through relevant metrics that add value and support departmental goals.
- Collaborate with Development, Test, Release, Product/Project Management, and Operations teams to ensure efficient testing practices and seamless delivery of high-quality software.
- Lead and shape QA strategies and planning, ensuring alignment with wider Technology and Business strategies.
- Build relationships with Functional Service Leads and SMEs, providing confidence in testing processes.
- Regularly review supplier testing processes for efficiency improvements.
- Stay updated on new testing tools, technologies, and methods to improve testing processes.
- Mentor QA engineers and team members on testing best practices.
- Review QA services continuously and contribute to partner service reviews.
- Identify resource gaps, write job descriptions, and participate in hiring processes.
- Support technological transformation and new ways of working within the department.
- Contribute to technical leadership and improvement initiatives across testing functions.
- Align testing tools, technologies, and directions within the QA team with organizational goals.
Regulatory responsibilities
- Support the Internal Audit team as needed.
Skills & Competencies
- Understanding and quantifying business risks introduced by technology changes.
- Proven experience in the UK Financial Services industry.
- Proficiency with test automation tools (e.g., Selenium, NUnit, Ready API, Test Complete), programming languages (.Net, C#, Python), and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Git).
- Experience with regulatory or compliance testing.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a regulated environment.
- Leadership experience in driving transformation using data and dashboards.
- Deep knowledge of software security standards and challenges.
- Broad experience in software development fundamentals, open-source test automation tools, and frameworks.
- Advocacy for best practices like TDD, BDD, CI, and CD.
- Experience in enhancing team performance and efficiency.
- Ability to develop comprehensive test strategies, including manual and automated testing, and reporting to stakeholders.
- Knowledge of non-functional testing (Performance, Security, Usability).
- Experience with end-to-end testing across multiple systems and platforms.
- Understanding of user journeys and customer experience.
- Experience with Azure DevOps for managing and reporting (Epics, Stories, Defects).
- Previous leadership or test architect experience in software testing.

Education
- ISTQB Foundation or equivalent certification.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
