Job summary

St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Academy is seeking an experienced Cover Supervisor to cover classes in all subject areas for 11-16 students. The role is suitable for graduates or teaching assistants seeking experience in a secondary school and to progress their careers.

The successful candidate will be flexible, have strong communication skills and the ability to engage with young people, and respond quickly in pressured situations. DBS enhanced disclosure is required.

Qualifications

• Experience as Cover Supervisor or teaching assistant desirable.
• Ability to supervise across multiple curriculum areas.
• Strong communication and engagement with students.
• Understanding of school policies and procedures for behaviour.

Responsibilities

• Explain and supervise the set work while covering for absent teachers.
• Manage the behaviour of pupils and maintain a constructive working environment.
• Respond to pupils' questions and deal with emergencies according to school policies.
• Collect completed work and return it to the appropriate teacher.
• Report back using school procedures on pupil behaviour during lessons.
• Assist pastoral support team when cover is not needed.
