Job summary

Herne Bay High School is seeking a confident, enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisor to support students when their usual teacher is absent and help them make progress.

The role involves supervising classes, delivering pre-set work, creating a calm classroom, supporting pupils with additional needs and providing feedback to staff.

This is a term-time only, permanent post with a pro-rata salary reflecting 38 weeks of the school year and monthly payments.

Qualifications

• Experience in or with schools and working with young people is desirable.
• Ability to adapt to a busy school environment and changing plans.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise classes in the absence of their usual teacher.
• Deliver pre-set work and ensure students remain engaged and focused on their learning.
• Establish and maintain a calm, positive and purposeful classroom environment.
• Support students to complete their work and encourage them to achieve their best.
• Manage behaviour confidently and consistently in line with school expectations.
• Provide appropriate support to students with additional needs, including SEND.
• Build positive and professional relationships with students.
• Communicate effectively with teachers, pastoral staff and other colleagues.
• Provide feedback to relevant staff about student engagement, behaviour and completion of work.
• Support the smooth running of the school day and contribute positively to our wider school community.
