Job summary

Niyaa People Ltd. is recruiting on behalf of a leading social housing provider for an experienced Temporary Accommodation Officer in Shaftesbury. The role focuses on proactive housing management and supporting residents at risk of homelessness.

You will work with individuals and families in temporary accommodation to sustain tenancies, maximise income and progress towards secure, permanent housing, collaborating with authorities and support services.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing, supported housing, homelessness, temporary accommodation or related care/support environment.
• Knowledge of welfare benefits and financial inclusion, including Housing Benefit and Universal Credit.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to handle sensitive conversations.
• Good IT skills and maintaining accurate customer/housing records.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of residents in temporary accommodation, providing housing advice, guidance and tenancy sustainment support.
• Work with residents one-to-one to develop personal housing plans and support moves to permanent accommodation.
• Provide advice and assistance with Housing Benefit, Universal Credit, PIP, appeals and income maximisation.
• Monitor rent accounts and arrears; collaborate with Customer Accounts to establish sustainable payment plans.
• Manage tenancy terminations, voids and allocations; minimise void turnaround times.
• Respond proactively to ASB, nuisance, harassment and safeguarding concerns with relevant teams and external agencies.
• Undertake regular accommodation and scheme inspections; monitor repairs; ensure properties and communal areas are safe and well maintained.
• Maintain accurate housing and customer records; ensure compliance with legislation, policies and data requirements.
• Collaborate with supported housing teams, local authorities, social services, health professionals and voluntary-sector providers.

About You

• Experience within housing, supported housing, homelessness, temporary accommodation or a related care/support environment.
• Good knowledge of housing management, tenancy sustainment and relevant housing legislation.
• Experience working with vulnerable residents and complex needs, with an understanding of safeguarding and trauma-informed approaches.
• Knowledge of welfare benefits and financial inclusion, including Housing Benefit and Universal Credit.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and manage sensitive conversations.
• Experience managing ASB, tenancy issues and safeguarding concerns.
• A proactive, customer-focused approach and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with partner agencies.
• Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate customer and housing records.
