Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking an Income Officer for temporary accommodation within its Housing Solutions and Support Service. You will manage income-related enquiries, conduct financial assessments and process rent payments while supporting residents to manage arrears and payment arrangements.

Qualifications

• Experience in income management or financial administration in housing, temporary accommodation or local authority environment.
• Knowledge of housing legislation, homelessness, welfare reform and housing support regulations.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills for financial assessments and rent payment discrepancies.
• Excellent communication and negotiation with residents, landlords, benefits teams and external agencies.
• Good IT and administrative skills, including experience using databases and computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer enquiries via telephone, face-to-face, home visits and digital channels; provide timely advice on income-related matters.
• Carry out financial assessments and income calculations for residents in temporary accommodation; identify payment issues and take action.
• Manage temporary accommodation rent payments, monitor accounts and arrears; liaise with residents to agree payment plans.
• Advise on housing-related financial matters, welfare benefits and entitlement; support financial and digital inclusion.
• Use IT systems to process requests, update records and generate reports for audits.
• Assist with preparation of statistical information, reports and performance updates; support audits and timely recommendations.
• Collaborate with colleagues, benefits teams and external stakeholders to resolve issues; promote equality and continuous improvement.
