Job summary

The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) invites applications for a Technician to support students in our Farnham 3D Making workshops. You will oversee day-to-day care and operation of the 3D Making facilities, delivering technical workshops and demonstrations into hand tools, machinery and CAM equipment.

A strong knowledge of health and safety and the ability to communicate clearly with students and staff are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering technical workshops or demonstrations in 3D making.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety procedures for specialist equipment and materials.
  • Ability to support students and staff with a positive, flexible approach.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day care and operation of the 3D Making facilities.
  • Deliver technical workshops and demonstrations on hand tools, machinery and CAM equipment.
  • Support students and staff, applying initiative and problem-solving within a team.
  • Work with the Learning & Organisational Development team to access training.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Technical Team at our Farnham Campus. We are looking for a skilled individual to support students in our 3D Making workshops and facilitate a multidisciplinary approach. Experience of working with a comprehensive range of materials and application techniques is essential.

You will oversee the day-to-day care and operation of the 3D Making facilities,providing knowledge, expertise, and experience in creative applications of a variety of materials. This will include the delivery of technical workshops and demonstrations into hand tools, machinery and CAM equipment bringing togetherdigital and analogue making processes.

This position requires knowledge and understanding of the H&S hazards associated with use of specialist equipment and materials needed to create 3D models. Experience of relevant safe working practices and a high degree of knowledge in all appropriate H&S procedures is a must to ensure the safety of our learners.

You will be able to demonstrate a positive and flexible approach when supporting both students and staff. This is a dynamic role that needs excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to apply initiative, problem solve and work as part of a team.

The University has a dedicated Learning & Organisational Development team who work with staff and managers to capitalise on training opportunities. Training will be provided to the successful candidate to build upon existing skill base and fill any gaps in knowledge.
