Job summary

University of Lancashire seeks a Technical Officer to lead the operation of our engineering workshop facilities, coordinating workshop resources and supervising a team of skilled technical staff to support teaching, research and commercial activities.

The postholder will deliver practical demonstrations, manage stock, ensure high health and safety standards, and provide specialist technical support across courses and projects in a dynamic academic environment.

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking a Technical Officer to lead the operation of our engineering workshop facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to manage specialist technical resources, support teaching and research activities, and lead a team of skilled technical staff.
The postholder will coordinate workshop facilities and provide specialist technical support for teaching, research and commercial activities. Duties will include delivering practical demonstrations, managing stock and supervising workshop activities., Our people are our most important asset. The successful candidate will have experience supervising staff within an engineering workshop environment and a strong background in practical engineering processes. You will be confident delivering technical training and demonstrations, maintaining specialist equipment, and ensuring high standards of health and safety.
Applicants should have experience of CNC machinery, CAD/CAM systems and SolidWorks, alongside excellent organisational, communication and customer service skills. A relevant engineering qualification, or equivalent industry experience, is essential. Experience in Higher Education, fabrication and manufacturing techniques, professional registration, or Health & Safety qualifications would be advantageous.
For this role you are required to have a technical or engineering undergraduate degree or appropriate equivalent experiential learning.
