Job description

Are you passionate about making, fabrication, and creative problem-solving? Do you enjoy sharing your technical expertise and supporting others to develop their skills? If so, we would love to hear from you.

London College of Communication (LCC), part of the University of the Arts London, is seeking a Specialist Technician to join our innovative and collaborative 3D Workshop team.

The 3D Workshop is a vibrant creative space where students develop ideas through object making, sculpture, set and prop construction, interactive environments, and site-specific installations. The workshop gives students access to a diverse range of equipment and technologies, including woodworking machinery, power tools, laser engravers, vinyl cutters, digital embroidery, 3D printing (filament, resin, and full colour), large-format CNC machining, mould‑making facilities, and a dedicated ceramics area featuring a 3D clay extruder.

As a Specialist Technician, you will play a key role in supporting students to develop confidence, practical skills, and technical understanding throughout their creative journey. Drawing on your specialist knowledge, you will provide technical instruction, demonstrations, and one-to-one guidance, helping students safely and effectively use workshop facilities while encouraging experimentation and innovation.

Working in a busy and varied environment, you will support a wide range of projects, from individual creative work to collaborative group activities, workshops, and technical masterclasses. You will help students troubleshoot challenges, develop practical solutions, and build resilience in their making processes.

The role also involves collaborating closely with academic colleagues and workshop staff to ensure activities support teaching objectives and enhance the student experience. Through your expertise and enthusiasm, you will contribute to creating an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring learning environment where students can thrive.

About you

We are looking for someone with strong practical and technical skills in 3D making and fabrication, ideally with experience of workshop equipment, digital manufacturing technologies, or related creative production methods. Excellent communication skills, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to safe working practices are essential.

If you are excited by the prospect of helping emerging artists, designers, and makers realise their creative ambitions, we would love to welcome you to our team.

Join us and help shape the next generation of creative practitioners at London College of Communication.
