Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a hands-on biology specialist in Greater London to support routine lentiviral vector production and molecular biology workflows. You will handle plasmid stocks, cell culture, transfection, and vector assembly, ensuring robust QC and data integrity.

The role requires experience with mammalian cell culture, viral vectors, and genetic engineering, along with proficient analysis and documentation. A strong team player with attention to detail is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in cellular and molecular biology.
• Experience with Lentiviral Vectors.
• Mammalian cell culture, vector engineering, cloning, PCR, transfection, transduction, and assay development.
• Organized and proactive with ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with research teams.
• Attention to detail and data interpretation with accurate record keeping.
• IT skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with ELN Benchling preferred.
• Higher degree + 2 years lab work with viral vectors or 5+ years in virology/genetic engineering.

Responsibilities

• Conduct microbiology workflows to prepare plasmid stocks and libraries.
• Perform routine cloning to generate plasmid and lentiviral vector constructs.
• Conduct cell culture and transfection workflows for lentiviral vector production.
• Determine viral particle titers and perform quality control using flow cytometry and ddPCR.
• Test and optimize viral particle production and QC protocols.
• Organize and track samples during production and storage.
• Support lab operations including inventory management and mycoplasma testing.
• Contribute to preparing, reviewing, and completing study reports and SOPs.
• Work with Translational Research Team to plan routine production runs and maintain documentation.

Job description

• Conduct microbiology workflows to prepare plasmid stocks and libraries
• Perform routine cloning to generate plasmid and lentiviral vector constructs
• Conduct cell culture and transfection workflows for lentiviral vector production
• Determine viral particle titers and perform quality control using flow cytometry and droplet digital PCR
• Test and optimize viral particle production and quality-control protocols
• Organize and track samples during production and storage
• Support laboratory operations, including inventory management, solution preparation, routine laboratory tasks, and mycoplasma testing
• Contribute to preparing, reviewing, and completing study reports and protocol SOPs
• Contribute to research team and department activities, laboratory duties, and group and department meetings
• Work closely with the Translational Research Team to plan and conduct routine lentiviral production runs and maintain laboratory documentation and reports

Requirements

• Candidates must have experience in cellular and molecular biology
• Experience of working with Lentiviral Vectors
• Skills in mammalian cell culture, vector engineering, genetic engineering, cloning, PCR, transfection, transduction, and assay development
• Organized and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and remain flexible and adaptable
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with the research team and cross-functionally
• Keen attention to detail and good analytical ability to interpret data sets
• Ability to analyze and write up data and maintain accurate records
• IT skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience working with an ELN such as Benchling preferred
• Highly motivated and eager to take responsibility for contributing to Orchard's mission
• BSc or MSc with a focus on a relevant biological discipline, including molecular biology or biotechnology, plus at least 2 years of laboratory work with viral vectors and molecular biology; or more than 5 years of experience in virology, lentiviral vector production, and genetic engineering technologies
• Participation in E-Verify
