Job summary

Tewkesbury Academy invites an energetic Technician to join the Creative Arts department. The role covers Art, Photography and Drama, preparing materials and resources for lessons and events.

Part-time, 32.5 hours per week, term time plus inset days. Start provisional 9 November 2026. You will help maintain specialist spaces, support practical activities, and contribute to extracurricular projects.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.
• A relevant qualification and/or practical experience within Art, Photography, Drama or a related field.
• Practical experience of following processes and procedures and working safely within specialist environments.
• An understanding of safe working practices, including the handling and use of specialist materials and equipment.
• Experience, confidence or a willingness to learn how to use relevant creative equipment such as kilns, printing equipment, photography equipment, studio lighting, or stage equipment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and organise practical lessons, performances, exhibitions and projects.
• Maintain Art, Photography and Drama spaces and ensure safety and organization of resources.
• Support staff and students with equipment and resources and ensure spaces are inspiring for learners.

Job Title: Technician (Art & Photography)

Actual Annual Salary:£26,124 - £28,473 Based on term time only weeks + Inset days

Full Time Equivalent Salary:Grade B - £26,798 - £29,208 Based on Full Time hours, all year round.

Contract Type:Permanent, Part Time, Term Time only plus Inset Days

Hours:Part Time, 32.5hours per week (working pattern to be discussed at interview)

We are seeking a proactive, creative and hands-on individual to join our thriving Art, Photography and Drama department as a Technician.

Our Creative Arts provision has gone from strength to strength, and we are proud of the opportunities, facilities and experiences we are able to offer our students. We are now looking for someone who shares our genuine enthusiasm for the arts and wants to play an active role in the continued development of the department.

The successful candidate will work across Art, Photography and Drama, supporting staff and students with the preparation and organisation of practical lessons, performances, exhibitions and creative projects.

Our specialist facilities include dedicated Art teaching spaces, a separate printing area and kiln facilities; a dedicated Photography studio; and a Drama Hall with stage and specialist lighting. The role therefore offers plenty of variety and the opportunity to work across a broad range of creative disciplines.

Working closely with the Curriculum Lead and teaching staff, you will play an important role in maintaining these specialist spaces, preparing materials and resources, supporting the use of equipment and ensuring our creative environments are safe, organised and inspiring places for students to work.

We are particularly keen to appoint someone who wants to become part of the wider life of the Academy. Alongside the core technician role, we would welcome someone with a real love of the arts who is enthusiastic about working with young people and willing to contribute to our extracurricular offer by supporting or leading a creative activity once a week.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys practical and creative work, takes pride in what they do and would like to make a visible contribution to a growing and ambitious Creative Arts department.

About You

• Good literacy and numeracy competency, including GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.


• A relevant qualification and/or practical experience within Art, Photography, Drama or a related field.


• Practical experience of following processes and procedures and working safely within specialist environments.


• An understanding of safe working practices, including the handling and use of specialist materials and equipment.


• Experience, confidence or a willingness to learn how to use relevant creative equipment, which could include kilns, printing equipment, photography equipment, studio lighting, theatrical lighting or stage equipment.


• Good written and verbal communication skills.


• Good organisational and problem-solving skills.


• A positive, flexible and proactive approach.


• A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the Academy, including supporting our extracurricular Creative Arts provision.
