Job summary

Alstom Barton-under-Needwood is seeking an experienced maintenance engineer to ensure the 22X fleet meets safety and operational standards. You will inspect train systems, perform component replacements, and work with cross-functional teams including maintenance and diagnostics to uphold safety-critical requirements.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a Rolling Stock Engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of train systems: Electrical, Mechanical and Software.
  • Familiarity with condition monitoring and diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out component replacements and system adjustments.
  • Ensuring the 22X fleet meets operational and safety performance standards.
  • Acting as an Authorised Person in maintenance and repair activities.
  • Conducting detailed inspections of train systems (electrical, mechanical, software).
  • Identifying faults using root cause analysis techniques.
  • Recording defects and corrective actions in maintenance systems.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, schematics and documentation.
  • Supporting continuous improvement to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
  • Maintaining safety and compliance throughout work.

Location: Barton -Under-Needwood (DE13 8ES) (On-Site)

Appointment Basis: Permanent (Shifts Days/Nights/Weekends)

You’ll work alongside skilled and collaborative teammates.You'll play a key role in ensuring the operational and safety performance standards of the 22X fleet are met. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (maintenance, diagnostics, and compliance), conduct detailed inspections of train systems, and much more.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Level 3 NVQ in an Electrical Engineering Discipline
  • Experience in a Rolling Stock Engineering environment
  • Knowledge of a variety of train systems including Electrical, Mechanical and Software. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with condition monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with SES(Smart Execution System) or similar production systems as well as MS Office packages
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
