Job summary

The Best Connection in Ashford, Kent is seeking a Test & Inspection Technician to join our electronics team. This role tests, inspects, fault-finds, repairs and validates electronic products to ensure they meet high standards of quality, performance and safety.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in electronics and an Electrical Engineering degree. You will work with engineering, production and quality teams to promote best practice and ensure compliance with IEC 61010

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering is essential.
• Experience in electronic testing, fault-finding and repair.
• Ability to repair PCBs to component level.
• Experience reading schematics and technical documentation.
• Soldering and rework of SMT and through-hole components.
• Good understanding of electrical safety standards.

Test & Inspection Technician

Salary: £27,000 - £31,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Location: Ashford, Kent

Hours: 40 per week

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Test & Inspection Technician to join our electronics team. This role is responsible for testing, inspecting, fault-finding, repairing and validating electronic products to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality, performance and safety.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in electronics, excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider engineering team. An Electrical Engineering degree is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Test, inspect and validate electronic assemblies and finished products against specifications and quality standards.
• Diagnose faults and repair printed circuit boards (PCBs) to component level using schematics, circuit diagrams and technical datasheets.
• Carry out rework and modification of surface mount (SMT) and through-hole components to IPC standards.
• Support the testing and evaluation of new product designs, identifying faults, bugs, performance issues and potential misuse scenarios.
• Conduct product qualification testing and document findings, recommendations and corrective actions.
• Perform servicing, maintenance and repairs on electronic products, including minor mechanical assemblies where required.
• Assist in the development and continuous improvement of testing methodologies and quality processes.
• Create and maintain test specifications, testing procedures and work instructions.
• Work closely with engineering, production and quality teams to promote best practice and support product development activities.
• Ensure all testing activities comply with relevant electrical safety standards, including IEC 61010 requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of testing, repairs, inspections and product performance.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (essential).
• Strong understanding of electronic principles, including:

• Proven experience in electronic testing, fault-finding and repair.
• Ability to repair PCBs to component level.
• Experience reading and interpreting schematics, circuit diagrams and technical documentation.
• Competency in soldering, rework and repair of SMT and through-hole components.
• Excellent understanding of electronic components and their application.
• Knowledge of electrical safety standards and compliance testing.
• Strong practical aptitude and hands-on approach to problem solving.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills

• IPC certification or equivalent soldering qualification.
• Experience within a manufacturing, R&D or product development environment.
• Knowledge of product qualification and compliance testing.Mechanical assembly or repair experience.
• Experience creating technical documentation, test procedures and work instructions.
