You will be the technical authority on treatment chemistry, process engineering, laboratory analysis, and treatment techniques, ensuring compliance with strict environmental regulations while driving efficiency and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead laboratory testing and analysis to monitor treatment performance, validate effluent quality, and ensure compliance with discharge consents and environmental permits.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for treatment processes and laboratory protocols.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in treatment plants, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to maintain uptime and treatment efficiency.
  • Work closely with operations, engineering, and regulatory teams to ensure all treatment activities meet UK legislation (Environment Agency permits, Hazardous Waste Regulations, etc.).
  • Provide technical leadership and training to site teams on treatment techniques, chemistry, and laboratory best practices.
  • Evaluate new treatment technologies and chemicals to improve sustainability, reduce costs, and enhance treatment outcomes.
  • Prepare technical reports, mass balance calculations, and data for regulatory submissions and management reviews.

  • Strong technical expertise in treatment chemistry (inorganic/organic chemistry, coagulation, flocculation, advanced oxidation, etc.).
  • In‑depth knowledge of waste treatment techniques (physico‑chemical, biological, thermal, and stabilisation processes).
  • Proven experience managing or working in a laboratory environment, including method development, QA/QC, and interpreting analytical results (ICP, GC‑MS, titration, etc.).
  • Thorough understanding of UK waste management regulations, environmental permitting, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to apply scientific principles to real‑world treatment challenges.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and performance‑related bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits including pension, private healthcare, and life assurance.
  • Company car or car allowance + fuel card.
  • Opportunities for professional development and technical training.
  • A supportive, innovative environment where your technical expertise will directly impact environmental outcomes.

If you are a technically strong, hands‑on waste treatment professional with a passion for chemistry and process optimisation, we want to hear from you.
