Job summary

Elvet Recruitment have been appointed to recruit a Site Chemist for the regional division of a £75m waste company in Teesside.

Key duties include operating process plant, analysing loads, and maintaining laboratory safety and documentation in accordance with SOPs and health, safety and environmental legislation. A minimum HNC in chemistry and a full driving licence are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in chemistry or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with health, safety and environmental legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate process plant in line with permit, procedures and discharge consent.
  • Analyse all incoming loads and designate process routes for site personnel.
  • Operate laboratory processes safely using PPE and SOPs.
  • Ensure documentation for all incoming and outgoing loads is correct.
  • Comply with SHE policies and environmental regulations to protect health and environment.
  • Provide analytical information to optimise vehicle turnaround, processing efficiency and service.
  • Assist in development and improvement of site activities and processes including waste sample analysis.
  • Take appropriate action on waste acceptance and rectify issues.
  • Pack and segregate lab smalls waste at customer sites to SOPs.

Job description

Elvet Recruitment have been appointed to recruit a Site Chemist for the regional division of a £75m waste company in Teesside.

Main duties will include:
  • Operate process plant in line with permit, procedures and consent to discharge.
  • Analyse all incoming loads in a timely fashion designating process routes to site personnel.
  • Operate all laboratory processes in a safe and efficient manner, using the correct Personal Protective Equipment and working within the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure the provision of the correct documentation for all incoming and outgoing loads.
  • To ensure that all site activities are carried out in full compliance with the Company's S.H.E. policies and all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and regulations in order that the operations at the site do not negatively impact on human health, the environment or public amenity.
  • To provide analytical information that will optimise vehicle turnaround time, processing efficiency and customer service.
  • To assist in the development and improvement of site activities and processes including the analysis of samples for new potential waste streams.
  • Take appropriate action with respect to waste acceptance and rectifying any problems.
  • Pack and segregate lab smalls waste at customer sites in a safe and efficient manager working to standard operating procedures.
To be considered, applicants should have:
  • A minimum HNC in chemistry
  • A good knowledge of hazardous waste.
  • The ability to assess potential safety/environmental/plant impact of processing hazardous waste.
  • Experience of Health and Safety and Environmental legislation as related to the Company's activities.
  • Technically competency in the handling of Hazardous Chemicals
  • Computer literacy with basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • The ability to work effectively within a team
  • A strong communication skills
  • The ability to build and maintain rapport with customers so as to promote and maintain positive customer relations
  • A full Driving License
