Job summary

Sapien Engineering is seeking an experienced Technical Sales Manager to drive growth for an engineering business near West Bromwich, specialising in material handling and bespoke lifting equipment. Qualifications

• HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or extensive relevant industry experience.
• Proven experience in technical sales or engineering sales.
• Strong ability to interpret customer requirements for engineered products.
• Experience preparing and costing quotations.
• Commercial awareness with pricing and contracts.
• Ability to develop and manage customer relationships.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple opportunities.
• CAD and proposal drawings experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Advise customers on material handling and lifting solutions.
• Generate new sales opportunities through proactive development and customer engagement.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers and identify opportunities for additional business.
• Conduct regular customer meetings, site visits and technical surveys throughout the UK.
• Understand customer requirements and translate them into appropriate engineering and commercial solutions.
• Prepare, cost and issue detailed technical quotations and proposals.
• Review enquiries and tenders for technical, commercial and contractual suitability.
• Negotiate pricing, commercial terms and contracts with customers.
• Maintain appropriate gross margin levels across quotations and orders.
• Liaise with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure proposed solutions are technically and commercially viable.
• Participate in design reviews and provide customer insight throughout the development process.
• Produce sales forecasts and maintain accurate pipeline information.
• Create basic concept drawings and proposal sketches where required.
• Work alongside the legal team to negotiate and agree appropriate contractual Terms & Conditions.
• Maintain regular communication with customers throughout the quotation and manufacturing process, ensuring they are kept informed of project progress.
