Job summary

CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) is seeking a Training & Competence Lead (Technical Readiness) in Chester to oversee the development of newly recruited technicians. This role ensures technicians achieve Initial Operational Performance (IOP) safely and in compliance with UK Rail standards.

The successful candidate will have a relevant NVQ Level 3 or higher qualification and significant experience in a safety-critical maintenance environment. This position offers a salary around £46,000 per annum, alongside a range of benefits including 25 days annual leave and a flexible working policy.

Qualifications

• Significant experience working in a safety-critical maintenance environment.
• Experience supporting or delivering technician development, assessment, or mentoring.
• Strong understanding of competence management in a safety-critical industry.

Responsibilities

• Lead the initial development journey for new technicians from induction through to IOP.
• Design and oversee robust assessment and verification processes.
• Work closely with training providers to ensure learning aligns with operational needs.

Skills

Experience in a safety-critical maintenance environment

Ability to interpret and apply standards

Experience in technician development or mentoring

Education

Relevant technical qualification (NVQ Level 3 or higher)
