Job Description:

Technical & Quality Assistant

To ensure that quality, ethical and legal standards are met on all products and that they align with our group sustainability requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Review technical development processes and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide technical support to the design and customer service teams to ensure fabrics, wallpapers, and paints meet required standards.
  • Understand testing requirements for different end uses and carry out tests accordingly.
  • Make decisions on next steps if fabrics fail FR or other test parameters, liaising with designers to adapt designs for application/production.
  • Test and support certification/documentation for National Accounts, Contract Orders, and Specials as requested by Sales.
  • Manage all required testing, record results in relevant databases.
  • Request and verify technical information from suppliers, ensuring completeness and timeliness.
  • Support product lifecycle and sustainability goals, ensuring products meet certifications and accreditation (e.g., Sustainability, Carbon Reduction, Eco Friendly, FR treatments, Packaging).
  • Analyze physical test samples, upload data, and suggest actions.
  • Maintain technical information within Mertex (usage, care, FR finishes).
  • Assign Usage Code, Care Code, FR code, and Tariff code to fabrics and wall coverings.
  • Verify technical details from suppliers and input data into launch files or systems.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation.
  • Share knowledge on FR treatments and train colleagues.
  • Execute due diligence, re-test as per schedule across the group.
  • Inspect fabrics and wallpapers in response to technical complaints, re-testing if necessary.
  • Support customer service and sales teams with product and technical training, resolving queries and warranty issues.
  • Promote knowledge sharing for easy access to information.
  • Complete assessment and testing forms for new developments.
  • Follow stage gate processes, meet deadlines, and communicate risks or changes.
  • Decide product/collection suitability for end use.
  • Ensure technical accuracy of published materials, proofread content, and create/update technical info tables.
  • Assess risks on fabrics based on application, support quality improvements, re-test if needed.
  • Approve bulk shipment samples.
  • Check fabrics and trims, resolve issues with mills.
  • Approve packaging labels, check trims, repeats, matching info, and perform QC on samples and bulk.
  • Support master’s process and procedures.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects as assigned by the Technical Manager.
  • Perform other reasonable duties and comply with health and safety requirements.
Process Management:
  • Ensure efficient and timely execution of processes, aiming for cost-effectiveness and high service quality.
  • Implement best practices, aiming for zero errors and waste.
  • Automate routine activities to reduce manual intervention.
  • Maintain accurate data in company systems.
  • Identify bottlenecks, analyze root causes, and suggest improvements.
Measures of Success:
  • Use substrates fit for purpose to reduce wastage.
  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives.
  • Reduce complaints by ensuring products meet standards from launch.
  • Enhance brand perception through quality improvements.
Skills & Experience:
  • Extensive knowledge of textiles and testing requirements.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of production methods and textile properties.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to interpret test results and decide accordingly.
