Job summary

Solutions Engineering Recruitment is seeking a Technical Project Manager to own large and complex productions across both ad-hoc projects and key accounts. This hybrid, UK-wide role involves office, warehouse and onsite delivery, with home-working where appropriate.

You will lead client communications, specify sound, lighting, video, rigging and staging, manage budgets and produce CAD drawings and technical production plans.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge across sound, lighting, video, rigging and staging solutions.
• Experience delivering B2B and B2C projects in a production environment.
• Experience leading skilled teams in live event settings.
• Minimum 5 years in the events industry.
• Strong local industry knowledge and contractor networks.
• CAD experience for technical drawings, especially Vectorworks.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Manage onsite technical delivery, leading teams of staff, freelancers and contractors.
• Handle client briefs and communications with Account/Project Managers.
• Specify equipment lists across all technical disciplines (sound, lighting, video, rigging, staging).
• Manage or assist with project budgets and external costs.
• Source equipment from external suppliers when required.
• Create project documentation covering technical specs, logistics and crewing.
• Coordinate teams of engineers across multiple projects, including freelancers.
• Produce CAD drawings and technical production plans with creatives.

Technical Project Manager

Reports To: Projects Director
Level: Mid-Senior
Salary: £35,000-£45,000 per annum DOE

Overview

We're looking for a Technical Project Manager to take ownership of large and complex productions across both ad-hoc projects and key accounts.

This is a projects-based role working across the office, warehouse and onsite, as required, with the option to work from home where appropriate.

You’ll be a client-facing representative, confidently managing your own time and workload while delivering turn-key technical solutions across a varied programme of events.

As part of a growing team, you’ll need to work proactively both independently and collaboratively, while being willing to support the wider company workload beyond your normal duties.

The role involves manual handling and heavy lifting, alongside regular client-facing work, so a hardworking approach and strong interpersonal skills are essential. Given the nature of the industry, you’ll also need a genuine passion for live events and be willing to work evenings, weekends and long days when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage onsite technical delivery, leading teams of internal staff, freelancers and external contractors
• Handle client briefs and communications, both independently and alongside Account and Project Managers
• Specify equipment lists across all technical disciplines, including sound, lighting, video, rigging and staging
• Manage or assist with project budgets, including external costs
• Source equipment from external suppliers where required
• Create project-specific documentation covering technical specifications, logistics and crewing requirements
• Coordinate and prioritise teams of engineers across multiple concurrent projects, including external freelancers and local crew
• Produce accurate CAD drawings and technical production plans, working alongside creatives and independently
• Deliver turn-key technical solutions across a varied programme of live events

Essential Skills & Experience

• In-depth technical knowledge across sound, lighting, video, rigging and staging solutions
• Experience in both B2B and B2C communications and project delivery
• Experience managing highly skilled teams within a production environment
• Minimum 5 years' experience within the events industry
• Strong local industry knowledge, including freelance and sub-hire connections
• Knowledge of CAD packages for technical drawings, particularly Vectorworks
• Strong team player with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Proactive and self-motivated approach
• Thorough and organised, with strong attention to detail
• Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Strong customer service experience with a desire to exceed expectations
• Full UK driving licence

Desirable Skills & Experience

• BS7909 competency/certification
• Forklift, Telehandler or IPAF licences
• PLASA NRC Level 2/3
• First Aid qualification
• 3D CAD skills

Working Pattern

This is a hybrid role, working across the Arborfield office, warehouse and onsite locations as required, with the option for home-working where appropriate.

Given the nature of live event delivery, you’ll be expected to work evenings, weekends and long days when required, managing your own time and workload around your calendar of events.

The role also involves manual handling and heavy lifting, alongside regular client-facing responsibilities.
