Job summary

Mott MacDonald in the UK is seeking a Technical Principal (Secondary Design, Transmission) to lead electrical design across 11kV–33kV networks and associated HV/LV infrastructure. You will drive concept and detailed design, support bids, and mentor junior engineers within the Energy unit.

Travel within the UK and internationally will be required as part of project delivery, client interfaces, and design reviews, with a focus on safety, standards, and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) registration.
• Strong knowledge of 11kV–33kV network design and HV/LV systems.
• Experience producing tender specs, calculations, designs and drawings.
• Ability to lead projects from early design to commissioning.
• Experience mentoring engineers and developing teams.
• Willingness to travel internationally.
• Knowledge of DNO/TSO standards.

Responsibilities

• Front-End & Optioneering: capture stakeholder requirements and assess configurations.
• Detailed Design: electrical network design and substation layouts from 11kV–33kV.
• Client interface: lead progress meetings and bid support.
• Quality & compliance: ensure design deliverables meet standards and programme requirements.
• Team leadership: develop electrical design team and coordinate interfaces.
