Job summary

Yeo Valley Organic is seeking a Technical Operator for the Nights shift at Newton Abbot. The role runs 18:00 to 06:00 on a 4 nights on / 4 nights off pattern and focuses on operating and maintaining complex production equipment to meet KPIs.

You will diagnose faults, optimise machines, and ensure food safety and quality standards are upheld across the team.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine checks to validate and maintain equipment safety control systems and escalate any food safety issues.
  • Participate in quality management and ensure controls and procedures are followed to meet customer expectations.
  • Adhere to hygiene, PPE and dress code; promote a Clean as You Go approach and maintain workplace organisation.
  • Operate and optimise equipment to meet production demand and maintain high product quality.
  • Perform advanced fault finding and identify root causes, escalating to engineering when needed.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
  • Collaborate across the team and handover insights to address common challenges.
  • Motivate the team with a proactive and energetic approach.

Job description

So, what will I be doing?

We are looking for a Technical Operator to join our Nights team at Newton Abbot. This role will be 4 nights on 4 nights off working 18:00 to 6:00.

As the Technical Operator you will be utilising your operational and mechanical skills and knowledge, you will be the go-to person for all in the team that need support with complex operational processes, optimising complex machines or identifying root cause of underlying problems. Through the undertaking of maintenance tasks, validation checks and optimisation of the machines, you will ensure the team are able to meet their daily Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) with optimal utilisation of our assets and raw materials.

Your Responsibilities
  • Undertake routine checks to validate and maintain equipment safety control systems to maintain statutory compliance. Escalate any food safety breach or quality issue and ensure that any product below our standards is identified and held and the issues are escalated appropriately, resolved and released.
  • Active involvement, commitment and governance of the quality management system, making sure all relevant controls and procedures are completed effectively to validate food safety controls and the products we make exceed customer and consumer expectations.
  • Understands, adheres and leads good manufacturing practices and company standards of hygiene, PPE, and dress code. Role models a 'Clean as You Go' approach, leading workplace organisation and visual management standards with the team.
  • Effective operation and optimisation of equipment and priorities to meet the production demand and delivery of the highest quality of products.
  • Undertake advanced/complex fault finding, decision making and rectification on equipment and lead the identification of root cause, escalating to engineering when required.
  • Ensuring all equipment is properly cared for by the completion of effective cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Work across the team and effective handovers to understand common challenges and opportunities seeking to identify where investigations may help most.
  • Energises the team and demonstrates a consistently enthusiastic approach, taking action quickly and encouraging others to do the same.
