Job description

Job Title: Technical Officer - Vehicle Team

Salary: The starting salary is £45,131, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £42,203 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £47,668. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Clapham

Supporting of covert policing through technology solutions.

This Band I role will primarily be in the vehicle team. The primary responsibility of the role holder will be to design and install electrical equipment solutions into vehicles. The type of vehicles will vary according to operational demand and could range from an HGV to a Scooter. Depending on Operational priorities. The Operational priorities will be set by the Band N in conjunction with input from Operational Policing. This role will encompass ‘all types of vehicle builds’ including compliant.

The successful candidate will also ideally have an auto electrical background, Qualified and experienced in maintaining Electric vehicles, College of Policing D course competency or will by acceptance of the role be mandated to complete the course within two years.

The Portfolio in which this role sits has wider responsibilities and although vehicles are the primary responsibility from time to time there may be a requirement to assist other areas.

Vetting

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post;

Essential for the Role, e.g. qualifications, licenses, languages, training

  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Ideally qualified to NVQ level 3 Advanced Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Technology or ONC level in telecommunications or electronic principles or be able to demonstrate exceptional relevant experience in this specific field.
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 points
  • Understanding of RF communication systems and a knowledge of mobile cellular, Bluetooth and WiFi systems
  • Knowledge of audio and camera technology an advantage.
  • Good practical tool skills and knowledge of vehicles essential.
  • Keen interest in vehicle technology, connected cars and futures.
  • Be able to work in a small team of specialist engineers and Police officers delivering technical solutions pan London
  • GPS
  • Electrical and Electronic principles
  • Basic Understanding of IP principles and networking, mobile phone networks
  • Good interpersonal skills and a strong team player
  • Flexibility and resilience to changing working environments
  • Able to work protracted hours in demanding environments sometimes away from home
  • IT literate with a willingness to learn and understand bespoke platforms
  • Possess good analytical skills
  • Good standard of general education with the ability to write comprehensive reports to a high standard
  • Work within a stringent safety and legislative regime and take responsibility for ensuring compliance
  • Be willing to undertake residential training.
