Job Description:

We have created a role for a Technical Manager, Automotive and Industrial with a passion for open source and precision engineering. Today, Canonical is providing secure and reliable products to our industrial and automotive partners. Our solutions bridge the gap between open-source innovation and industry-specific requirements, including stringent certification processes. Our goal is to enable industries such as automotive to leverage our open source portfolio, from factory to cloud and automotive innovation.

Your role will include leading a team of engineers to adapt our products to automotive and industrial standards. You will represent Canonical and Ubuntu in the community and standards consortia, ensuring our products support standards like IEC, ISO, UNECE R & R, ISO ASIL, and ASPICE. You will also focus on enhancing delivery quality, security, and developer experience, working on strategy and execution. You will report to the Vice President of Engineering Excellence and collaborate with the Automotive Product Manager on vision and roadmap.

Location: This is a globally remote role.

What you’ll do

  • Refine the vision and strategy for automotive at Canonical.
  • Define and execute an engineering roadmap for the automotive team.
  • Represent Ubuntu and Canonical in the automotive community, to customers, partners, and consortia.
  • Build and lead a globally distributed engineering team.
  • Develop skills through coaching, feedback, and technical leadership.
  • Manage expectations with other teams, management, and stakeholders.
  • Promote modern, agile software development practices.
  • Develop and evangelize engineering and organizational practices.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture.
  • Work from home with international travel twice a year, up to two weeks each time.

Who you are

  • Strong background in software engineering, Linux, and open source.
  • Knowledge of automotive and industry standards like ISO, IEC, SOTIF, UNECE R, ISO ASIL, and experience leading compliant product development.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux packages and embedded development.
  • Experience in C/C++ and Python programming.
  • Practical experience in automotive, including functional safety, embedded systems, and cloud software trends.
  • Experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring developers.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality software on time.
  • Passion for developing and growing people.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.

What we offer you

Compensation will depend on location, experience, and skills. Benefits include:

  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Personal learning and development budget of $2,000 per annum.
  • Annual compensation review.
  • Recognition rewards.
  • Annual holiday leave.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Opportunities to travel for company events.
