Job summary

MCS Group is partnering with a Belfast-based organisation to recruit a hands-on Technical Lead for a cloud-based software product. You will stay actively involved in development while guiding the team on architecture, coding standards and AI-enabled features.

In this hybrid role, you’ll mentor engineers, own key technical decisions and collaborate with product stakeholders to deliver high-quality software with robust security and scalable deployment processes.

Technical Lead/Principal Software Engineer - Full Stack & AI

Belfast | Hybrid | Up to £67,000 + annual bonus

MCS Group is delighted to be exclusively working with an established organisation to recruit a hands‑on Technical Lead for a team developing a cloud‑based software product.

This opportunity combines full-stack development, technical leadership and the practical use of AI. You'll help shape technical decisions, support other engineers and deliver new functionality, including AI-enabled capabilities.

The role

You'll remain actively involved in development while providing technical direction and helping the team deliver high-quality software.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing features across the frontend and backend.


• Owning complex technical problems and contributing to architecture decisions.


• Coaching engineers and improving coding, testing and security practices.


• Working with product stakeholders to agree priorities and delivery goals.


• Improving development workflows, automation and deployment processes.


• Using AI coding agents and helping the team develop effective agentic workflows.

This is a technical leadership position with no direct line management responsibility.

About you

You’ll bring:

• Significant commercial software development experience, including technical leadership.


• Strong React skills and backend development experience with TypeScript or Python.


• Experience delivering cloud-based applications and working with relational databases.


• Practical use of AI coding assistants or agents within your development workflow.


• Experience mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices.


• Confidence working with product stakeholders and explaining technical decisions.

Experience integrating AI tools with wider development systems, including through MCP, would be particularly relevant. You should be comfortable discussing how you validate AI-generated code and maintain engineering quality.
