IMT Resourcing Solutions Ltd is assisting a growing Managed Service Provider in Cheltenham to appoint a Technical Lead who will own complex technical issues, support the engineering team and deliver infrastructure projects across the customer base.

This hands-on leadership role suits an experienced 3rd Line or Senior Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys solving problems, mentoring others, and taking responsibility for technical delivery and customer communications.

Qualifications

• Experience in MSP/IT services supporting multiple customer infrastructures.
• Senior 3rd Line or infrastructure engineer with ownership of escalations.
• Hands-on with project delivery from scoping to implementation.

Responsibilities

• Act as senior escalation point for complex infra, cloud, networking, and security.
• Provide mentoring to 1st-3rd Line Engineers.
• Own technical projects: migrations, upgrades, deployments, security improvements.
• Design, implement, and support MS 365, Azure, Windows Server, networking.
• Engage with customers to understand challenges and propose solutions.
• Investigate root causes and implement permanent fixes.
• Maintain standards, documentation, and best practices.
• Support onboarding of new customers and scoping of solutions.

We're working with a growing Managed Service Provider in Cheltenham that is looking to appoint a Technical Lead to take ownership of complex technical issues, support its engineering team and deliver infrastructure projects across its customer base.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position, ideally suited to an experienced 3rd Line Engineer, Senior Infrastructure Engineer or Technical Lead who enjoys solving problems, working directly with customers and taking responsibility for technical delivery.

You'll be the go-to person for technical escalations, providing direction to other engineers whilst remaining heavily involved in project work and the technologies the business supports.

What you'll be doing

• Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure, cloud, networking and security issues.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to 1st, 2nd and 3rd Line Engineers, helping improve troubleshooting and resolution capabilities.
• Take ownership of technical projects, including cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades, network deployments and security improvements.
• Design, implement and support solutions across Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server and networking environments.
• Work directly with customers to understand technical challenges, recommend solutions and support their longer-term IT requirements.
• Investigate recurring technical issues, identify root causes and implement permanent fixes.
• Maintain technical standards, documentation and best practices across customer environments.
• Support the wider business with technical scoping, solution design and the onboarding of new customers.

Technical skills we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a strong technical background across Microsoft infrastructure, cloud technologies and networking, ideally gained within an MSP environment.

• Strong Microsoft 365 administration, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams and Intune.
• Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, identity management and cloud infrastructure.
• Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy and DNS/DHCP.
• Experience delivering Microsoft 365 migrations, tenant configurations and hybrid environments.

Networking & Security

• Strong networking fundamentals covering TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs and firewalls.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting firewalls, ideally Fortinet/FortiGate.
• Endpoint security, vulnerability management and security best practices.
• Knowledge of ESET endpoint protection or similar security platforms.

Infrastructure & Backup

• Experience supporting virtualised environments, including Hyper-V or VMware.
• Server infrastructure, storage, hardware and associated technologies, ideally including HP/HPE.
• Backup and disaster recovery solutions, ideally Acronis or equivalent.
• Experience planning and delivering infrastructure upgrades, migrations and technical improvements.

What we're looking for

• Previous experience in an MSP or IT services environment, supporting multiple customer infrastructures.
• A strong technical background, ideally at senior 3rd Line or infrastructure engineering level.
• Experience taking ownership of complex technical escalations and seeing issues through to resolution.
• Proven experience delivering technical projects from initial scoping through to implementation.
• The ability to mentor engineers and provide clear technical direction.
• Strong communication skills, with the confidence to engage directly with customers and explain technical solutions.
• Someone who enjoys remaining technically hands-on rather than moving into a purely managerial position.
