Job summary

Lewisham Council is seeking an experienced Technical Fire Safety Advisor to provide expert fire safety guidance across a diverse housing portfolio, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice. You will lead on fire risk management and work with contractors and regulators to deliver effective safety outcomes.

You will develop and deliver training to a wide range of teams to embed a strong fire safety culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 4 Diploma fire safety qualification.
• Membership of GIFireE, MIFireE, MIFSM or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of BS 7974 and Building Safety Act 2022.
• Experience with fire risk assessments and fire engineering matters.

Are you an experienced Technical Fire Safety Advisor with strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, British Standards and building regulations and all current fire safety guidance?

Can you provide expert technical advice, manage complex fire safety risks, and support compliance across diverse property portfolios?

As a Technical Fire Safety Advisor, you will provide expert fire safety advice across a diverse housing portfolio, ensuring compliance with legislation, standards and best practice. You will join a fire safety team who lead on fire risk management, support major projects to deliver fire safety initiatives, and work with contractors and stakeholders to deliver effective fire safety outcomes. You will also develop and deliver fire safety training and awareness sessions to a wide range of teams and stakeholders across the organisation, helping to embed a strong fire safety culture.

What we’re looking for

We're looking for a highly motivated fire safety professional who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative and team-focused approach. You'll work closely with colleagues across Housing, Asset Management, Building Safety and Compliance, building strong relationships and contributing positively to a supportive team environment. You'll be confident in providing expert advice, assessing complex fire safety issues on site, and developing practical, risk-based solutions. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, as is the ability to engage effectively with residents, contractors and regulators. The role also includes designing and delivering fire safety training to a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation. We offer flexible and remote working arrangements, balanced with site visits and inspections across the borough.

Location

The job is primarily based in Laurence House, Catford, London,SE6 4RU, but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

Special conditions

• Minimum Level 4 Diploma (or equivalent) fire safety qualification.
• Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. GIFireE, MIFireE, MIFSM, or equivalent).
• Strong technical understanding of building construction and fire behaviour.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of fire engineering principles in accordance with BS 7974.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Building Safety Act 2022.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of current fire safety legislation, standards and guidance, including Approved Document B, BS 9991, BS 9999, Fire Safety in Purpose-Built Blocks of Flats guidance, NFCC Sheltered Housing Guidance and LACoRS Housing Fire Safety Guidance.
• The job is subject to a Basic DBS check.

Salary

£62,634 - £64,815 per annum (PO7)

N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
