Goodman Masson is recruiting on behalf of a well-established housing provider in Greater Manchester for an experienced Fire Safety Officer. This role sits within the Fire Safety function and offers a key part in maintaining and improving fire safety standards across a large residential property portfolio.

You will carry out inspections and fire door checks, manage fire risk assessment programmes, review actions, monitor compliance, and provide practical fire safety advice.

Qualifications

  • Experience in fire safety, preferably in social housing or public sector.
  • Knowledge of current fire safety legislation and guidance.
  • Experience in inspections, audits, or compliance checks and closing actions.
  • Experience providing fire safety advice, guidance or training.
  • Understanding of Fire Risk Assessments and action planning.
  • Strong organisational skills and risk-based approach.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
  • Proficient IT skills; Excel, Word, PowerPoint; reporting.
  • Experience with residents or customers is advantageous.
  • Membership or willingness to work towards professional body (IFE, IFSM, RICS, CIOB, CIH).
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out fire safety inspections and fire door checks; record issues.
  • Support Fire Risk Assessment programme management.

  • Visit properties to verify actions.
  • Conduct audits to assure fire and building safety standards.
  • Monitor alarms, extinguishers and maintenance.
  • Investigate incidents and implement learning.
  • Provide fire safety advice for new properties and existing buildings.
  • Support systems managing works affecting fire safety.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff.
  • Develop and maintain fire safety procedures and docs.
  • Produce reports and management information on performance.
  • Support resident communication on fire safety.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and regulators.
  • Resolve customer inquiries related to fire safety.

We are working with a well-established housing provider to recruit an experienced Fire Safety Advisor to join their Fire Safety function.

This is an excellent opportunity for a fire safety professional to play a key role in maintaining and improving fire safety standards across a large residential property portfolio. You will provide practical advice, undertake inspections, monitor compliance activity and work closely with teams across the organisation to ensure actions are identified, understood and resolved.

The Role

You will support the wider fire safety function by:

  • Carrying out fire safety inspections and fire door checks, ensuring statutory requirements are met and any issues are appropriately recorded and addressed.
  • Supporting the delivery and ongoing management of a substantial Fire Risk Assessment programme.
  • Reviewing fire risk assessments, allocating actions to the appropriate teams and monitoring progress through to completion.
  • Visiting properties where required to support fire risk assessment activity and verify that identified actions have been appropriately addressed.
  • Carrying out audits and inspections to provide assurance around fire and building safety standards.
  • Monitoring other fire safety measures, including fire alarms, extinguishers and associated maintenance activity.
  • Investigating fire and building safety incidents and ensuring appropriate follow-up actions and learning are communicated across the organisation.
  • Supporting the development and acquisition of new properties by providing fire safety advice and checking that relevant standards and requirements are being met.
  • Assisting with systems designed to control works being undertaken within buildings where there could be an impact on fire or building safety.
  • Providing technical advice, guidance and training to colleagues and managers across the organisation.
  • Developing and maintaining fire safety procedures, guidance and supporting documentation.
  • Producing clear reports, statistics and management information to highlight performance, risks and outstanding actions.
  • Supporting resident communication and engagement around fire safety, ensuring relevant information is provided in a clear and timely manner.
  • Working collaboratively with internal departments, contractors, external organisations and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Supporting the resolution of customer enquiries, complaints and issues relating to fire safety.
About You

We are looking for a proactive fire safety professional who can demonstrate:

  • Practical experience working within fire safety, ideally within social housing, local government or another public-sector environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of current fire safety legislation, regulations and guidance.
  • Experience undertaking inspections, audits or compliance checks and managing actions through to completion.
  • Experience providing fire safety advice, guidance or training to colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • An understanding of Fire Risk Assessments and the ability to interpret findings and identify appropriate actions.
  • Strong organisational skills with a methodical and risk-based approach to your work.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with the ability to produce clear reports and presentations.
  • Experience working with residents or customers would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of housing assets, maintenance, building construction and property compliance would also be beneficial.
  • A relevant Fire Safety qualification and membership of, or willingness to work towards membership of, an appropriate professional body such as IFE, IFSM, RICS, CIOB or CIH.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
