Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technical delivery professional to join our Integration and Data Engineering team as the new Technical Delivery Manager.

The Integration & Data Engineering function in OUP's Global Technology division provides technical services and capabilities to support projects and stakeholders across the business. Supporting the publishing divisions, its role is to deliver Integrations and Data assets to support projects and the wider business.

The team supports:

  • Systems Integration: Delivering loosely coupled, reusable, and horizontally scalable integration solutions that support integrations to support the business divisions.
  • Data Engineering: Operating the Data Hub for warehousing, reporting, analysis, and operational use.
  • EDI Services: Supporting B2B customers and suppliers across multiple ERP platforms

The Integration & Data Engineering team needs a capable Technical Delivery Manager to support and coordinate the many activities with which it is involved. You will report to the Head of Integration & Data Engineering, and work alongside our system integration/delivery partners, enterprise architecture and project teams to ensure efficient delivery. You will lead a team of Data Engineers, Integration Technical Consultants and offshore delivery resources. You will own delivery, coordinating and clarifying prioritisation of incoming requests and ensuring the capacity of the team meets the overall demand. You'll ensure a high level of quality is maintained in the output of the team in all their work. You will require a good technical background to guide the team and shape the delivery of scalable, governed and high-quality solutions.

This role will work closely with project managers and business stakeholders as well as the delivery and support teams to ensure that project objectives and deadlines are met and balance the priorities of the projects with the objectives of Enterprise Architecture, Global Technology and the wider business to ensure we build strategic integration and data services.

You need to have a technical background - you are responsible for delivery outcomes and need to understand the implications and the technical dependencies, and where design decisions need to be made or called out to a wider audience. You will need to anticipate potential issues so that problems can be flagged and avoided.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have/be:

  • A customer focus – delivering quality functionality in a timely, efficient way that supports the business is our number one goal.
  • A robust, proactive & pragmatic delivery ethos with excellent stakeholder management, collaboration & communication skills
  • A delivery-orientated background with experience of full software development lifecycle and managing competing priorities
  • Management, prioritisation & delivery of features across a project portfolio
  • A commercial and practical mindset balancing technical and non-technical solutions to solve business problems.
  • “Own the problem” approach – lead by example - ensuring that problems are addressed promptly, taking responsibility for removing roadblocks, and efficiently resolving decisions with the right people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex problems and influence senior non-technical and technical colleagues, and suppliers
  • Familiarity with standard integration and data architecture approaches, techniques, tools and frameworks
  • Technical background with Back-office Integration or Data Engineering
  • Working in an ITIL environment using ServiceNow and Change Management
  • Understanding of cloud resources and networking (Azure ideally)
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Azure Data Technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse or Fabric
  • Knowledge of Alteryx Designer / Server

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.
