Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a proactive Technical Coordinator to support maintenance across nine sites from Earlswood & Crawley Sewage Treatment Works. You will manage SAP prerequisites, coordinate internal technicians and external contractors, and ensure plant availability while meeting KPIs.

  • Obtain quotes and order materials/3rd party services via framework contractors.
  • Ensure health and safety requirements are met through RAMS, permits and site audits.
  • Meet legal statutory maintenance requirements (lifting equipment, pressure vessels, generators).

Job description

Based in Surrey, this full‑time Technical Coordinator - Waste Water role with Pertemps Thames Water offers a salary from £39,770 per annum, dependent on experience. You will be based from the Earlswood & Crawley Sewage Treatment Works, travelling to nine other sites as required. Working predominantly in the field, you will coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, directing internal technicians and external contractors. Your focus is ensuring plant availability and meeting operational KPIs across wastewater sites. Collaborating with Performance Managers and specialist teams, you will take ownership of tasks to maintain high operational standards. This position suits a proactive coordinator with strong organisational skills, capable of managing diverse work schedules effectively. We’re looking for a motivated and proactive Technical Coordinator to join our Operations team, based from our Earlswood & Crawley Sewage Treatment Works with flexibility to travel around 9 other sites. This is an exciting chance to play a key role within the team, working predominantly in the field and closely with a supportive and experienced operations team.

Location and Working Hours

Location: Earlswood or Crawley Sewage Treatment Works, with flexibility to travel around 9 other sites. Hours: 36 per week, Monday to Friday. Salary: Salary from £39,770 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Responsibilities
  • You will be responsible for the management of the prerequisites within SAP (materials, permits, resources and services) for all complex jobs for planned and reactive work across maintenance and operations.
  • Use technical expertise and data captured from the field to design operationally critical jobs.
  • Highlight key operational risks across the area and present these to obtain funding.
  • Maintain the availability of plant and equipment and optimise treatment process performance.
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on technical issues and generate solutions to operational risks.
  • Obtain quotes, order materials and 3rd party services through our framework contractors.
  • Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety are managed correctly, through safe system of work approval, reviewing RAMS, permitting and site audits.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that our legal statutory maintenance requirements are met, including items such as lifting equipment, pressure vessels and generators.
Essential Criteria
  • Strong understanding of plant, equipment, and operational processes.
  • Collaborative – able to work closely with Planners, Field Performance Managers, suppliers, and 3rd parties.
  • Technically experienced with a good understanding of how to maintain assets.
  • Good local knowledge of how important an asset is to a site and how it relates to other assets.
  • Meticulous at documenting the finer details of what needs to take place.
  • Able to manage a large workload of numerous jobs in parallel.
  • Competent with IT systems (will use SAP extensively) as well as effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry; ideally you will be IOSH or equivalent qualified.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this position as the role involves travelling around our sites.
Desirable skills
  • Completed a time‑served apprenticeship or hold a recognised technical qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Preferably experience working within Water or Wastewater Treatment, or a comparable industrial environment.
