Job summary

Thames Water in Esher is looking for a Senior Technician – Waste Water Treatment to oversee monitoring, maintenance and fault-finding across three treatment sites. You will operate SCADA systems, take effluent samples and drive process improvements while ensuring compliance with environmental permits.

The role includes a 36-hour week Monday to Friday plus a six-week on-call rota and a company van. Based at Esher with hybrid working at Leatherhead and Weybridge, you will support junior team

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for three operating sites in line with environmental permits; maintain equipment and perform site maintenance.
  • Undertake reactive and planned maintenance; respond to alarms and fault finding; raise issues for escalation.
  • Record work and asset information to improve performance; identify risks for resolution.
  • Prioritise health and safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders at all times.
  • Deliver excellent customer experience and contribute to overall satisfaction.
  • Interact with customers (internal & external) timely, professional and respectful.
  • Collaborate with business units to identify improvements and provide evidence-based feedback.

Job description

As a senior member of the team, you will conduct a full range of monitoring, maintenance, operations and repair work across three sites on the wastewater treatment assets. This will include routine operational maintenance and cleaning tasks; maintaining a variety of records and reports related to wastewater system operations and operate computers for process control; and monitoring the SCADA system.

You will optimise processes to maximise efficiency and compliance. Taking the initiative to resolve process failures and manage asset maintenance and faults: directly or via escalation.

As a senior member of the team, you will also be expected to support and develop other team members.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Technician – Waste Water Treatment
  • Take responsibility for three operating sites in line with environmental permits to protect the environment; general maintenance of equipment and site, taking effluent samples to monitor and improve biological performance.
  • Undertaking both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault finding to identify issues, fix these or escalation, planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance, along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work, and to raise these for resolution as required.
  • To make sure the health, safety and wellbeing of myself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors is always my top priority by displaying the correct behaviours at all times.
  • To deliver an excellent customer experience and positively contribute to overall customer satisfaction.
  • Interacting with all of our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.
  • Working collaboratively with business units/departments across the business to identify improvement opportunities, providing constructive feedback with evidenced examples, with suggestions for improvement.
Base location –

Esher Sewage Treatment Works, with hybrid working at two other sites, Leatherhead and Weybridge.

Working hours –

36 hours Monday to Friday, with a 6-weekly on-call rota.

Salary –

From £35,000 depending on skills and experience + additional payments for the 6-weekly on-call rota.

Van –

You will be provided with a company van.

  • Full UK driving licence.

Additional skills and experiences would be great to have/bring:

  • Experience of delivering against challenging upper quartile business targets and performance commitments.
  • Team leadership experience would be great to have.
  • Previous experience in the water industry
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service both internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication skills.
