Job description

Technical Business Analyst

Location: Radstock – hybrid

Salary: Up to £50,000

Working Pattern: Full-time

Initial Training: Office-based for the first 6–8 weeks, followed by typically 2–3 days per week in the Radstock office

About the Role

We are looking for a Technical Business Analyst to join a small, collaborative project team and play a key role in analysing business problems, understanding complex internal systems and helping shape effective technical solutions.

This is not a traditional BA role. You will work across a range of bespoke internal systems, acting as the link between business stakeholders and technical teams. You will be expected to get underneath a problem, challenge assumptions, identify gaps and translate business needs into clear, practical and deliverable solutions.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and will have the analytical ability to understand how systems work, how processes operate and where improvements can be made.

Key Responsibilities
  • Elicit, analyse and document business, functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Analyse business problems and translate them into clear technical requirements and proposed solutions.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand the underlying problem rather than simply documenting stated requirements.
  • Identify gaps, dependencies, risks, assumptions and potential impacts across systems and processes.
  • Analyse and document as-is and to-be processes, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Produce high-quality Business Requirements Documents, Functional Specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain requirements traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with technical teams to validate requirements and support solution design.
  • Act as the link between business users, project managers, developers and other technical stakeholders.
  • Facilitate workshops, requirements-gathering sessions and stakeholder walkthroughs.
  • Support testing and acceptance activities to ensure solutions meet agreed requirements.
  • Contribute to product backlogs and support Agile delivery where appropriate.
  • Support Waterfall and hybrid projects, adapting the approach to suit the project and business need.
  • Help develop prototypes and supporting documentation where required.
  • Produce training and supporting materials for new or updated systems.
  • Occasionally support the configuration of internal web portals.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and ways of working.
  • Make appropriate use of AI tools to improve efficiency and the quality of BA deliverables.
About You:

We are looking for someone who combines strong Business Analysis skills with genuine technical understanding.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong experience gathering, analysing and documenting requirements.
  • Experience working with bespoke, internal or complex systems.
  • Excellent business process analysis and improvement skills.
  • The ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Experience producing clear, structured technical and business documentation.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience working across Agile and Waterfall environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • The confidence to challenge requirements and ask the right questions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with process mapping tools such as Visio and strong Microsoft Office skills.
The Person:

We are particularly interested in someone who is naturally curious and analytical.

You won’t simply take a requirement at face value. You’ll want to understand why the business needs it, how the current process works, what the underlying problem is and what the best technical solution could look like.

You should be comfortable working independently, communicating with people at different levels of the organisation and getting into the detail of unfamiliar systems.

Working Environment:

You’ll join a small project team working across a range of business, technology and systems initiatives. Because of the bespoke nature of the environment, there will be plenty of opportunity to understand different systems, processes and business areas and make a tangible impact.

The role is based in Radstock, with an initial requirement to work from the office full-time for approximately 6–8 weeks as you complete your training and get familiar with the organisation and systems.

Following this period, the role will typically operate on a 2–3 day per week hybrid basis, depending on project requirements. There may also be occasional travel to other company and client sites.

Benefits
  • 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • On-site gym
  • Weekly yoga class
  • On-site parking
Interview Process:

The process will include:

Stage 1: Interview with members of the project team, focusing on your technical BA experience, approach to problem solving and stakeholder management.

Stage 2: A practical discussion where you will talk through a project you have previously delivered, including the problem you were solving, your approach to requirements and analysis, the documentation you produced and how you helped deliver the solution.

This will give the team the opportunity to understand how you think and work as a Business Analyst, rather than simply testing your knowledge of BA terminology.
