Job summary

Orion Group is recruiting a Technical Author in Aberdeen on a 6 month PAYE contract. The role combines technical writing, information management, and SharePoint development to govern project documentation across a major energy project.

You will lead authoring of procedures, standards, and HSE docs, build information systems, and ensure auditability and consistency throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in technical authoring, document control, information management, or governance in energy/oil & gas or processing industries.
• Experience producing technical procedures, standards, operating instructions, management system docs, or HSE documentation.
• Strong technical editing, proofreading, and document QA capability.
• Experience developing documentation frameworks, templates, and governance processes.
• Advanced SharePoint administration and configuration, including metadata, permissions, workflows, and information architecture.

Responsibilities

• Lead authoring, editing, and maintenance of project procedures, management plans, work instructions, technical standards, and guidance documents.
• Translate complex engineering, operational, and HSE requirements into clear, structured documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, HSE specialists, and stakeholders to gather, validate, and develop content.
• Ensure documentation follows consistent writing style, terminology, format, and structure; develop templates and style guides.
• Develop and maintain linked documentation sets to ensure traceability between procedures, standards, plans, and records.
• Establish document governance processes covering creation, review, approval, publication, revision, and retirement; oversee version control and lifecycle conventions.
• Design and implement the project’s document management framework and information architecture; configure SharePoint libraries, metadata, content types, permissions, workflows, and search.
• Produce user guides and training materials; coach users; identify opportunities to improve quality, usability, and accessibility; support transition to business-as-usual operation.
