Job summary

The Royal College of Art in London seeks a practical and organised Technical Assistant in Media Resources to support students, staff and visitors with media equipment.

Based at White City Resource Store, you will run the loans desk, issue and check in equipment, maintain booking systems, and provide day-to-day help on photographic, video and AV gear in a busy creative environment. The role is fixed-term to 20 August 2027 and full-time.

The Royal College of Art is the world's leading postgraduate university of art and design, and we are looking for a practical, organised and customer-focused Technical Assistant in Media Resources to join our Technical Services Team.

Based at our White City Resource Store, you will play an important role in supporting students, staff and visitors to access the equipment, materials and facilities they need for teaching, learning and research.

This is a varied, hands-on role at the heart of a busy creative environment. You will run the loans desk, checking, issuing and storing a wide range of equipment, while providing friendly advice and day-to-day support on media and audiovisual equipment. From photographic, video and sound recording equipment to projectors, screens and AV playback kit, you will help ensure that our resources are accessible, well maintained and ready for use.

You will also help to keep our equipment booking systems, online information and induction materials up to date, check in deliveries and returned equipment, arrange repairs and supplies, and help maintain a safe, tidy and well-organised store.

There will be opportunities to support other RCA resource stores, including at Kensington and Battersea, particularly during busy periods and major shows and events. You may also support end-of-year show installations and help provide access to local media facilities.

We are looking for someone with good knowledge of photographic, video, sound and AV equipment, together with experience of using electronic booking systems within a loans store, technical or AV environment. You will be highly organised, confident using IT systems and comfortable communicating with a wide range of people.

A flexible and proactive approach is essential. You will be able to work independently, use your initiative to solve day-to-day problems and also enjoy being part of a supportive team. Above all, you will bring a positive, user-focused approach and a willingness to learn.

Experience of working with postgraduate art and design students, an interest in lens-based work or experience of creating online content would be an advantage, but are not essential.
