Job summary

Middlesbrough College is hiring a Technical Assessor – Port Operative to support and develop apprentices within the ports and logistics sector. The role leverages hands-on port experience to assess learners in the workplace and drive skills development.

The successful candidate will build relationships with employers, conduct enrolments and assessments, and ensure policies and funding requirements are met while advancing learner progression.

Qualifications

• Level 3 or equivalent qualification in the relevant vocational discipline.
• Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent Functional Skills qualifications.
• Must hold or be willing to work towards TAQA, CAVA, A1 Assessor Award, or equivalent assessor qualification.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with employers, stakeholders, and external agencies to support learner recruitment and programme growth.
• Conduct learner enrolments, inductions, and initial assessments to identify individual learning needs and starting points.
• Assess learners' occupational competence, knowledge, skills, and behaviours in line with awarding organisation and apprenticeship standards.
• Manage a caseload of learners, ensuring timely progress, achievement, and completion.
• Ensure all assessment activities comply with funding regulations, apprenticeship requirements, awarding body standards, and organisational policies.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Port Operative to join our team as a Technical Assessor, using their industry knowledge and practical experience to support and develop apprentices within the ports and logistics sector. This role is ideal for someone with experience working as a Port Operative, involved in tasks such as loading and unloading cargo, moving goods around the port, operating equipment, and following health and safety procedures. As a Technical Assessor, you will use your industry experience to support and assess apprentices in the workplace, helping them develop the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the ports and logistics industry.

Qualifications
