Job description

Hours of work: 40 hours per week (8.00am-4.30pm).

Location: Buckfastleigh (Devon) or Bristol

Contract type: Permanent

About the role:

We’re on the lookout for a talented and experienced Architectural Designer (CIAT, RIBA Part II or III) to join our collaborative and passionate team at Carpenter Oak. Based in either our Buckfastleigh or Bristol studio, you'll be working on beautifully crafted, high-end residential timber buildings.

The role is ideal for someone with strong technical design experience who also brings creativity to early-stage planning designs. You’ll be hands-on at RIBA Stages 3 & 4, liaising directly with clients and collaborating closely with our in-house design and build team to deliver stunning, prefabricated timber structures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Primary focus on RIBA Stages 3 & 4
• Client facing role
• Further developing technical and CAD solutions
• Integrating prefabricated timber elements into projects
• Collaborate with our multidisciplinary design and build team

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years experience in the bespoke residential sector
• Strong technical design skills at RIBA Stage 4
• High quality design skills at RIBA Stage 3
• Experience of obtaining planning permission for UK residential projects
• Excellent working knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM and Building Safety Act
• Proficiency in design software & workflow (AutoCAD, Sketchup, Revit, Adobe Suite)
• Excellent communication skills and a clean driving license
