Partner Company in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Backend Engineer specialized in Payments & Fintech to rebuild and scale core financial systems. You will own the canonical billing, subscriptions, and entitlement platforms, handling end-to-end flows across gateways, currencies, and tax rules.

Qualifications

• 6-10 years of backend engineering experience in payments/billing domains.
• Strong relational database design and SQL skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement canonical billing and entitlement ledger using an append-only architecture.
• Own the complete subscription lifecycle across multiple payment gateways.
• Build reliable payment gateway ingestion pipelines with idempotent webhook processing and daily reconciliation.
• Handle refunds, chargebacks, disputes, credits, and settlements with accuracy and auditability.
• Create data pipelines for accounting close, revenue recognition, and tax reporting.
• Own customer-facing billing experiences including checkout and account management.
• Lead migration from legacy billing models with data backfills and regional cutovers.
• Establish engineering practices prioritizing financial correctness, observability, and safe operation.
