Job summary

Jobtailor in London seeks a technically senior leader to guide design and architecture across production systems. You will drive end-to-end ownership from discovery to operation, champion AI-assisted engineering and elevate code quality and observability.

You will mentor engineers, shape platform direction, and collaborate with Product and Design to balance trade-offs in a fast-moving, regulated environment.

Qualifications

Significant experience building and operating production software in a modern engineering environment.
Experience leading technical design and delivery for complex systems or domains.
Comfortable working across backend and frontend systems, including Go, TypeScript, JavaScript, and Python.
Strong knowledge of APIs, data modelling, testing strategies, and system design.
Active use of AI-assisted engineering tools in the development workflow.
Experience demonstrating how AI-assisted tools improve software design, development, testing, or maintenance.
Experience with Go, TypeScript, React, React Native, Temporal, PostgreSQL, GCP, and AI-assisted engineering tools, depending on the team
Ability to mentor engineers and lead through influence rather than authority
Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Comfortable working in a fast-moving, regulated environment where quality and trust are critical

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership within the team and domain, guiding design decisions and architectural direction
Design, build, and deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable complex features and systems
Own technical outcomes end-to-end, from discovery and design through delivery and long-term operation
Lead by example in AI-assisted software engineering while maintaining engineering judgment and accountability
Improve AI-enabled development practices and automate repetitive engineering work
Represent Engineering at an organisational level and partner with Product, Sales, Marketing, Support, Operations, Legal, and Compliance
Mentor and coach engineers, supporting their technical growth and confidence

Collaborate with Product and Design to shape solutions, challenge assumptions, and manage trade-offs
Lead technical discussions, reviews, and incident investigations
