About the Role

Home Instead West Lothian is looking for an experienced People & Performance Manager to take day-to-day leadership responsibility for our frontline team of Care Professionals, reporting to our Registered Care Manager.

This is a hands-on people and team management role within home care, focused on getting the best from our Care Professionals through effective leadership, supervision, coaching, performance management, employee engagement, wellbeing and development.

The focus of this role is our people rather than ownership of client care packages. We are therefore particularly interested in care-sector leaders who enjoy developing colleagues, improving team performance and creating a positive employee experience.

The role may particularly suit an experienced Field Care Supervisor, Care Team Leader, Home Care Team Leader, Domiciliary Care Team Leader, Care Supervisor or Senior Care Coordinator who would like people leadership and staff development to become the main focus of their role.

Experience within home care, domiciliary care, care at home, social care or healthcare is highly desirable, but not essential. We are also interested in experienced managers from other service-led environments who can demonstrate strong formal line-management experience and a track record of developing frontline teams.

Internally, the successful candidate will hold the title Care Professional Experience Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take day-to-day line management responsibility for our Care Professional team.
  • Lead supervision, appraisal, coaching and development conversations.
  • Manage performance, attendance, absence and wellbeing matters, balancing support with clear accountability.
  • Support new Care Professionals through their first 12 weeks and probation period.
  • Identify training and development needs and help continually improve the Care Professional onboarding and development experience.
  • Identify and develop future Mentors, Senior Care Professionals, Leads and Supervisors, supporting leadership development, succession planning and internal progression.
  • Lead Care Professional engagement, recognition, communication and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Maintain regular visibility with the care team through support visits, observations, spot checks and coaching in the field.
  • Use employee feedback, retention information and workforce data to identify trends and drive practical improvements.
  • Work closely with the Registered Care Manager and wider office team to provide joined-up leadership and support.
  • Participate in the business's out-of-hours on-call rota.
Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • Previous formal line-management experience, with responsibility for employee performance and development.
  • Proven experience of managing and developing people, including underperformance or attendance concerns, difficult conversations and coaching.
  • Experience of structured one-to-ones, appraisals, supervision or performance reviews.
  • Evidence of improving team performance, capability or ways of working.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-management skills, with the confidence to make decisions, establish professional boundaries and hold people accountable.
  • Excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in helping others develop and succeed.
  • Strong organisation, judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, resilient approach and willingness to understand home care delivery, including regular field-based activity alongside Care Professionals.
  • SVQ3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) is preferred, although we will consider candidates who are willing to work towards this qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence and reliable access to a vehicle, due to the field-based responsibilities of the role.

Experience of managing a dispersed or frontline care workforce, developing supervisors or team leaders, or leading employee engagement, retention, wellbeing or mentoring initiatives would be particularly valuable.

Additional Information
