Role: Team Manager – Children in Need Team
Location:
Hillingdon
Salary: £52,929 – £57,102 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Team Manager to lead the Children in Need Team in Hillingdon. This role is pivotal in ensuring high-quality social work practice that safeguards and promotes the welfare of children and young people.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supervising a team of social workers, ensuring that assessments, interventions, and support plans are effective, timely, and child-focused. The role will involve working with children in need, children subject to child protection plans, and children in pre-proceedings, ensuring best outcomes for them and their families.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced social work professional with a strong background in child protection, safeguarding, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strong leadership, direction, and supervision to a team of social workers within the Children In Need service.
  • Allocate and oversee cases, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions for children and families.
  • Monitor and improve social work practice through supervision, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Oversee and manage child in need and child protection cases, ensuring robust risk assessment and decision-making.
  • Chair strategy meetings, child protection conferences, and legal planning meetings when required.
  • Support social workers in handling complex cases, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice guidelines.
  • Work closely with schools, health professionals, police, and other agencies to ensure coordinated support for children and families.
  • Represent the CIN team in multi-agency panels and safeguarding discussions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner agencies and stakeholders.

  • A recognised Social Work qualification (e.g., Degree in Social Work, CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent).
  • Current registration with Social Work England.
  • Substantial post-qualification experience in a children’s social care setting, including experience of managing a team or supervising practitioners.
  • In-depth knowledge of legislation, policies, and procedures relevant to children with disabilities, including the Children Act 1989, the Care Act 2014, and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Strong experience in safeguarding children and managing risk in cases involving complex needs and disabilities.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team, with experience in providing supervision, performance management, and staff development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with children, families, colleagues, and partner agencies.
  • Highly developed organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage competing demands, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • A commitment to inclusive practice and promoting diversity in service delivery.
