Job summary

Veolia Group in Padworth is seeking a Team Leader to help drive a sustainable waste collections service. You will support supervisors, lead by example on safe working practices, and manage staff scheduling, training and liaison with client waste officers.

You will ensure fleet readiness, monitor safety, and coordinate with multiple Veolia departments to deliver high-quality service while promoting continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • DCPC and LGV licence (Class C) required.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments with accuracy and understanding of compliance.
  • Experience in leading a team and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of fleet and traffic compliance and health and safety legislation.
  • Experience with work planning using computer systems.
  • Operational knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with flexibility.
  • Proven relationship-building and stakeholder management.
  • Very strong IT skills across multiple software packages (desirable).
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (desirable).
  • Previous experience leading a team (desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Assist Supervisors and Management in delivering waste collections services.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed and conduct field inspections.
  • Coach operatives to work safely and lead by example.
  • Maintain safe, clean and operable resources; report defects and investigate accidents.
  • Support staff booking, training, and liaison with client waste officers.
  • Collaborate with Contract Management and other Veolia departments on issues and improvements.
  • Manage sickness/absence and implement remedial actions.
  • Keep fleet clean and report any accidents or damage.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities for career progression.
  • Use operational software systems for service and vehicle compliance; participate in safety reporting.

What you’ll be doing
  • Assist the Collections Supervisors and Management team in achieving successful delivery of the waste collections service, standing in to deliver service requirements during the Supervisor's absence
  • Ensure all staff are aware of and strictly follow health and safety procedures at all times, carrying out regular field inspections to ascertain safe working practices and improvements
  • Coach and support operatives to work safely, setting a standard by leading by example and being proactive and conscientious whilst at work
  • Ensure all resources are in a safe, clean and operable working condition; report and monitor any occurring issues/defects without delay and ensure all accidents are fully investigated
  • Assist with the booking of staff in/out, training of staff and liaising with client waste officers
  • Liaise with the Contract Management team, administrators and other Veolia departments regarding service issues and take improvement action proactively
  • Manage and control sickness/absence levels, being responsible for taking improvement/remedial action
  • Ensure the fleet is kept clean, investigate and report to the Supervisor if accidents/damage takes place
  • Identify where additional training is required and recognise where operatives could be given the opportunity to further their career within the company
  • Understand and use all operational software systems for service and vehicle compliance, as well as safety reporting
  • Proactively engage with staff across the contract, promote outlets/forums such as H&S meetings and actively participate
